Reebok Floatride Run

Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England, May 24, 2010 - Mark Allison, a native of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England, is not a novice runner. In the summer of 2007, he ran 874 miles from John O'Groats to Lands' End in 37 days raising £34,108 for St Benedict's Hospice. During the summer of 2011, he will attempt a bigger feat. Beginning May, 2011, Mark will set off from California and plans to run to New York by August, 2011. The purpose of this run is to raise money for two charities in the United Kingdom. The funds raised will be split between St Benedict's Hospice (Charity No. 1019410) and The Children's Foundation (Charity No. 1000013).

St Benedict's Hospice provides specialist care to maintain and enhance the quality of life for people who have life threatening illnesses. While their services are free, financial support is needed to help them to continue into the future. Mark chose this charity because they cared for his mother during her final days as she battled cancer. The very caring and professional Hospice staff ensured she was as comfortable as she could be and gave her a dignified end to her life.

He also has always wanted to run for a local children's charity and he chose The Children's Foundation because of the amazing work they do. The Children's Foundation raises essential funds for medical and lifestyle research to combat childhood diseases and conditions such as cerebral palsy and autism.

During his 2007 run, Mark raised £34,108. So far, he has raised a total of £10,423 for the 2011 run through donations, the sales of the Run Geordie Run T-Shirts, and his willingness to sell some of his most prized sports memorabilia on eBay. Corporate sponsorships include Northern Runner, David Fairlamd Fitness, Adidas , McCowie & Co., Peter's Pies, Custom Planet, and Brooks.

It is important to note that all funds pledged will be passed to the charities. All overheads associated with the run will be paid for out of his own pocket. Volunteers are needed for the Run Geordie Run Support team and of course, any donations to the charities are greatly appreciated.
