Reebok Floatride Run

Event supports Hand-In-Hand hurricane relief, multiple charity partners - More than 12,000 runners are set to participate in the Chicago Half Marathon & 5K, produced by Life Time – Healthy Way of Life, this Sunday, September 24. This year marks the 21st running of the endurance event, Chicago’s premier half marathon, which is expected to raise $300,000 for its charity partners, including the Hand-In-Hand Hurricane Relief Fund.

Participants from all 50 states and 41 countries are expected to weave their way through Chicago’s historic south side during the race. The scenic course begins and ends in Jackson Park and runs through the University of Chicago campus and a traffic-free Lake Shore Drive.

Avid runners of all ages will participate in this year’s event, including an 82-year old and 11-year old who will take on the half marathon race distance, and a 91-year old and 7-year old who participate in the 5K race distance. The race is expected to draw thousands of spectators. An additional 1,400 volunteers will be on hand to ensure the safety and organization of the event.

Upon crossing the finish line, each runner will receive a gold medal weighing one full pound and measuring six inches wide – the largest finisher medal in the Midwest. Following the race, athletes, friends and family are invited to celebrate at the Finish Festival, the official post-race party.
This year, the Chicago Half Marathon & 5K has expanded its partnership with several charities. In addition to benefitting long-time partners like the AIDS Foundation of Chicago, American Cancer Society, Muscular Dystrophy Association and Big Shoulders Fund, the race will also raise funds for Hand-In Hand Hurricane Relief, which will be used for emergency relief and recovery efforts in Texas and Florida and other areas devastated by the recent hurricanes.

The race weekend officially kicks off with the Chicago Half Marathon Health & Fitness Expo for participants (Friday, September 22 from 12:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 23 from10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) at Soldier Field. Limited registrations will be available at the Expo.
