American Distance Project News

Joe Gray Joins ADP - (Colorado Springs, CO) - Joe Gray (Scott Sports) has joined the American Distance Project after moving to Colorado Springs in September.  Gray, who recently was the surprise champion at the USA National Club Cross Country Championships, trained with the ADP over the last three months with the cross country race as a focus. Gray, who qualified for Team USA set to compete at the BUPA Great Edinburgh International Cross Country in January, is also an accomplished mountain and trail runner having represented the U.S. thirteen times with three US national mountain, ultra, and trail titles in 2013 alone, in addition to a gold at the 2013 NACAC Mountain Running Championships. Gray is a native of Lakewood, WA, and a graduate of the Oklahoma State where he set personal bests of 14:15.54 for 5,000-meters, 8:13.51 for 3,000-meters and 8:44.73 for the steeplechase.  Gray will continue to compete as a mountain and trail runner while also pursuing the track, road races and the marathon.

Kanuho & Gray Selected To Team USA for BUPA Great Edinburgh Cross Country

(Colorado Springs, CO) - Rochelle Kanuho (adidas/BRC) and Joe Gray (Scott Sports) both were selected to represent Team USA at the
BUPA Great Edinburgh International Cross Country meeting to be held January 11 in Scotland.

Gray was an automatic selection with his win at the 2013 USA National Club Cross Country Championships, while Kanuho, who's selection marks her first US national team, was awarded her spot with her 12th-place finish in the same race.

The traditional European cross country course, 8,000-meters for men and 6,000-meters for women, features soft thick grass, mud and steep descents. ADP teammate Mattie Suver (adidas/BRC) scored silver for the U.S. in last year's race.

Kanuho Leads adidas/BRC to Runner-Up at US National Club Cross Country;  Gray Men's Champion

(Colorado Springs, CO) - Rochelle Kanuho and adidas/BRC teammate
Brittni Hutton
didn't hold back at the USA National Club Cross Country Championships pushing from the gun on the rough cross country course in Bend, OR.  Kanuho ended up 12th in the deep field in her first US championship, while Hutton finished in 17th-place.  Along with teammate and 2012 champion Mattie Suver, 2012 runner-up Brianne Nelson and Wendy Thomas, the adidas/BRC squad finished 2nd-place in team scoring bringing home a check for $3,000.

In the men's race, Joe Gray (Scott Sports) surprised a deep field including American Mile Run record holder Allen Webb to take the win on the final loop of the hilly course.  Brandon Birdsong (adidas/BRC) remained in the lead pack up until an untimely fall on a muddy downhill at 7,000-meters on the 10,000-meter course.  Birdsong was able to regain his feet and fight back up to finish 21st.
