Carlson will be making his fourth appearance and Peyton her second at the New Haven 20k, which has been the site of the American championship for men since 1993 and for women since 2006. The race starts at 8:40 a.m. (Eastern) on a course that begins on New Haven Green and goes past Yale University.
In 2011, Carlson was sixth in the championships with a time of 1:02:03, and finished fourth in 2009 and third in 2006. The two-time national champion (25k and 15k) was sixth at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials last January and is preparing to run the ING New York City Marathon in November.
Peyton placed seventh at the USA 20k Championships last year with a time of 1:10:28.

In a ranking of U.S. running performances so far in 2012, Track & Field News ranks four Team USA Minnesota distance runners in the top 10 of their events. Leading the team is Gabriele Anderson who is ranked second in the 3000 meters among U.S. women with a time of 8:43.52, second in the mile with a time of 4:27.94, and fourth in the 1500 meters at 4:04.84.
On the roads, Jon Grey has the fifth fastest time in the half marathon with his debut time in the distance of 1:02:25;Andrew Carlson is sixth in the marathon with a debut time of 2:11:24; and Emily Brown is ranked ninth in the half marathon with her personal best performance of 1:12:44.
