Maiyo Top American At World 1/2 Marathon; Alisha Williams 3rd at US 10-Mile & Mattie Suver PR's with a 7th-place at the US 10K

(Colorado Springs, CO) Augustus Maiyo (US Army/WCAP) led Team USA to a fourth-place finish at the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in Kavarna, Bulgaria, on Saturday. 

Maiyo, who posted a personal best of 62:33 despite hot conditions and a criterion loop course composed of continuous hairpin turns, finished 15th overall, the highest finish by an American male since Dathan Ritzenhein's bronze finish in 2009. Team USA also had their highest team finish ever supported by Luke Puskedra who was two spots behind Maiyo. Results are at: http://www.iaaf.org/Mini/whm12/index.aspx

At Sunday's US 10-Mile Championships in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, Alisha Williams (adidas/BRC) challenged for the lead throughout the race with 2012 US Olympians Janet Ceberon-Bawcom, Kara Goucher and Jullie Culley. Williams ended up third behind Cheberon-Bawcom's win and 12-seconds off of Goucher with a personal best time of 54:08. Wendy Thomas (adidas/BRC) and Christie Foster (adidas/BRC) finished 11th and 14th, respectively. In a deep men's field, Robert Cheseret (US Army/WCAP) was hampered by the 30-degree temperatures and finished 22nd. In Monday's US Women's 10k Championships hosted by Tufts Health Plan 10k For Women in Boston, MA, Mattie Suver (Brooks) ran to a personal best of 32:59.4 to take 7th place, her highest finish in a US championship.
