(Colorado Springs, CO) - Augustus Maiyo (US Army/WCAP) matched defending champion Sendeku-Alemyehu stride for stride starting with a 4:32 opening mile at the Army 10-Miler, only to be out-kicked in the final stretch. Maiyo, however, led WCAP to a record team win in the International Team Competition to best the Brazilian and Ethiopian contingents. The US Army, powered by Maiyo's 47:54 personal best and Kyle Heath's 10-mile debut of 48:44 for 4th place, and Robert Cheseret and Joseph Chirlee's 5th and 10th-places, respectively, in 49:07 and 49:35, smashed the four-member combined team competition record of 3:16:05 with an impressive mark of 3:15:20.
Representing the All-Army team, Kenny Foster and Edwin Sang ran impressive marks of 49:11 and 50:22, respectively, for 7th and 13th overall.
The day before, in Colorado Springs, Brandon Birdsong and Matt Levassiur led the adidas/Boulder Running Company to to the team title of the USATF-CO Cross Country Championships with 8k finishes of 25:39 and 25:46, in 6th and 7th place.
Brianne Nelson and Mattie Suver posted 3rd and 4th's at the same event with 6k marks of 21:22 and 21:35, while Nelson doubled the next day to win the USATF-CO Half Marathon Championships with a time of 1:18.
