Gabriele Grunewald to Race at Prefontaine Classic May 30; Heather Kampf Wins 3rd USA 1 Mile Road Championship

Minneapolis/St. Paul – May 20, 2015 – Team USA Minnesota’s Gabriele Grunewald will be among the top international competitors at the Prefontaine Classic on May 30.  Grunewald will run the 5000 meters at the IAAF Diamond League meet that will be held at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.   Grunewald has posted a World ‘A’ Standard of 15:19.01 in the 5000, which she set at the Stanford Invitational on April 3.  Most recently, she competed in the Hoka One One Middle Distance Classic on May 14 where she was second in the top women’s heat of the 1500 meters with a time of 4:07.67.   The 41st Pre Classic will start its Saturday events on the track at 12:15 p.m. (Pacific time).

 USA 1 Mile Road Championships – Results
Heather Kampf won the USA 1 Mile Road Championship – hosted by the Medtronic TC 1 Mile - on May 14, making her a three-time USA 1 Mile Road champion and a two-time TC 1 Mile winner.  Kampf out ran the women's field with a time of 4:45.4.
Also competing in the women's mile race were Meghan Peyton who finished seventh with a time of 5:02.3 and Gina Valgoi who was eighth in 5:02.8.  In the men’s championship mile race, Jon Peterson finished in seventh place with a time of 4:12.
Nearly 2,500 runners registered for the event which was held in downtown Minneapolis.  The race was the second stop on the 2015 Bring Back the Mile Tour.
