Team USA Minnesota Receives Special RRCA Olympic Development Grant; Parker Stinson Wins Cow Harbor 10k; Gabriele Grunewald 4th at USA 5k

Minneapolis/St. Paul – Sept. 23, 2015 – Team USA Minnesota has received one of five special grants awarded to U.S. Distance Training Centers by the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) to support its efforts to develop athletes for the 2016 Olympic Trials.  The grants are in the amount of $5,000 each. “The RRCA adds to its proud 50-plus year tradition of athlete support by awarding these special grants to U.S. Distance Training Centers as well as to athletes that we believe will help support a broad range of Olympic hopefuls as they prepare for the upcoming U.S. Olympic Trials – Marathon,” said Jean Knaack, RRCA executive director.  “We look forward to the 2016 Trials as our athletes chase their Olympic dreams.”

The funding supports U.S. athletes focusing on either the upcoming marathon trials in Los Angeles in February or in the 10,000 meters at the track trials in Eugene in July.

Great Cow Harbor 10k

Parker Stinson won the Great Cow Harbor 10k in Northport, New York, on Sept. 19 with a time of 29:12.  For the 2015 graduate of the University of Oregon, it was his first win as a professional runner.  Next up for Stinson will be the USA 10 Mile Championships which will be held at Twin Cities on Oct. 4.

USA 5k Championships

Gabriele Grunewald finished in fourth place with a time of 15:55 at the USA 5k Championships in Providence on Sept. 20.  The race concludes the 2015 season for Grunewald. 

Also competing at the 5k championships, which were hosted by the CVS Health Downtown 5k, was Gina Valgoi who crossed the line in 24th place with a time of 17:19.  Valgoi will next run in the USA 10k Championships for women which will be held at Tufts in Boston on Oct. 12.
