Katy Moen, Biya Simbassa to Compete at USATF Cross Country Championships in Oregon Feb. 6; Heather Kampf at Armory Track Invitational Feb. 6; Five Team USA Minnesota Runners to Assist with TC Kids Fieldhouse Fun Run on Feb. 6

Minneapolis/St. Paul – Feb. 2, 2016 – Team USA Minnesota’s Katy Moen and Biya Simbassa will be among the competitors at the USATF Cross Country Championships in Bend, Oregon, this weekend, while Heather Kampf will travel to the other side of the country and run at the Armory Track Invitational in New York City.  In addition, five Team USA Minnesota runners will volunteer at the TC Kids Fieldhouse Fun Run that will be held at the University of Minnesota.  All three events will be held on Feb. 6. At the USATF Cross Country Championships, Moen will compete in the senior women’s 10 km scheduled at 1:20 p.m. (Pacific time) and Simbassa will race in the senior men’s 10 km at 2:10 p.m.  This will be the first time that the 10 km distance will be contested for this championship – previously the women ran 8 km and the men covered the 12 km distance.  Moen is an accomplished cross country runner having finished eighth individually at the 2014 NCAA Cross Country Championships while her Iowa State University women’s team placed second.  Simbassa competed for the University of Oklahoma and in 2014 was second at the Big 12 Cross Country Championships.  Both athletes joined Team USA Minnesota last summer.

The USATF Cross Country Championships serves as the National Team selection event for the APA Pan American Cross Country Cup that will be held March 5 in Carabelleda, Venezuela, with five athletes selected for each junior and senior men’s and women’s squad.  The championships in Bend is also part of the 2016 USATF Running Circuit and will be televised at

Armory Track Invitational

Heather Kampf will run the 3000 meters at the Armory Track Invitational in New York City on Feb. 6.  Kampf has a best of 4:04.50 in the 1500m and is going up in distance for this indoor track meet.

The women’s 3000m is one of eight elite-athlete invitational events being contested between 1 and 3 p.m. (Eastern) at the Armory on Saturday.

TC Kids Fieldhouse Fun Run

Five Team USA Minnesota runners – Rob Molke, Jon Peterson, Meghan Peyton, Megan Goethals and Gina Valgoi – will be on hand to assist with the TC Kids Fieldhouse Fun Run on Feb. 6.  Over 1,000 kids are expected to participate in the indoor track event to be held at the University of Minnesota.

Hosted by Twin Cities In Motion, the annual event begins at 9:00 a.m. with races for the kids that include a half mile, mile and relay runs on the indoor 200 meter track.  Races begin with the youngest age groups first.  Participants include kids in pre-school/kindergarten up through 6th grade.

The Team USA Minnesota athletes will lead kids through warm-ups, cheer on the runners, inspire and interact with the kids, sign autographs and generate lots of run
