2008 NAIA Track and Field 5,000 meter champion, McKendree’s sophomore Carison Kemei, lead almost the entire race before Oklahoma Christian’s sophomore Silas Kisorio passed Kemei in the final meters of the race to post a one second victory with his 24:23. Malone’s junior Aaron Melhorn (24:36) took home the bronze. Azusa Pacific’s junior Abednego Magut (24:42) and Malone’s junior James Zeuch (25:15) rounded out the top five. Cornerstone’s Zach Ripley (25:17), Southern Oregon’s David Laney (25:22), Concordia’s Dana Schmidt (25:25), Concordia’s Zach Meineke (25:26), Embry Riddle’s Evans Kirwa (25:26), Malone’s Paul Robinson (25:27) and Malone’s Christopher Sinick (25:29) finished next.
Southern Oregon (188) finished third behind Malone and Concordia. Shawnee State score 229 points to finish fourth while Embery-Riddle (264) was fifth. Simon Fraser (275), Aquinas (305), McKendree (346), Bristish Columbia (348) and College of Idaho (357) rounded out the top ten teams.
Shorter’s junior Justyna Mudy pulled away from the pack early on the muddy 5,000 meter course in the NAIA Women’s Cross Country National Championships to capture overall individual honors in 17:30. Azusa Pacific’s junior Jacky Kipwambok (17:52) took home runner up honors for the third straight year. Lindenwod’s senior Francine Nzilampa (17:56) captured the bronze. Condordia’s sophomore Violet Mokaya (18:06), Missouri Baptist’s senior Meagan Hudson (18:08) and Cedarville’s freshman Katie Gillespie (18:12) finished next. Cal St San Marcos’ Dallon Williams (18:20), Grand View’s Obsie Birru (18:20), Azusa Pacific’s Lauren Jimison (18:20) and Jamestown College’s Katie Conlon (18:21) rounded out the top ten in the 30th running of this women’s championships.
Cal St. San Marcos (137) won their first ever NAIA team title edging Biola (140) by just three points. Malone took home the team bronze. Simon Fraser (195) and Azusa Pacific (199) finished next. Cedarville finished sixth with 224 points while College of Idaho (246), British Columbia (269), Concordia (311) and Black Hills State (321) rounded out the top ten
