Atlanta Track Club claims two titles, leads winners at USATF Club Cross Country Champs

BEND, Ore. -- On a chilly, snow-filled day in Bend, Ore., nine teams and multiple individuals took home titles at the 16th annual USATF National Club Cross Country Championships held at River’s Edge Golf Course.

The Beasts Track Club from Seattle, Wash. took home the women’s open title with five top-15 finishers. Leading the club was Deborah Maier (Seattle, Wash.) and Angela Bizzarri (Seattle, Wash.), who turned in a 3-4 finish to help Beasts to the women’s title with 34 points.

On the men’s side, Champions League Athletic Performance captured the men’s open title, led by Brent Vaughn’s (Blackhawk, Colo.) fourth-place finish (31:20). Champions League clinched the men’s crown by the narrowest of margins, defeating ZAP Fitness Reebok by one point, 127-128.

Welch and Fisher Capture First Place Titles in 35th Annual Foot Locker Cross Country Championships Midwest Regional

RACE HIGHLIGHT:Kelcy Welch of Carmel, Ind., and Grant Fisher of Grand Blanc, Mich., won the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships (FLCCC) Midwest Regional today.  In the girls’ race, Welch claimed the title in 17:34.  Stephanie Jenks of Aurora, Iowa, placed second in 17:39, and Rebekah Topham of Griswold, Iowa, placed third in 17:45.                                                      

In the boys’ race, Fisher claimed the title in 15:02, and Addison DeHaven of Brookings, S.D., placed second in 15:09.  Jesse Reiser of McHenry, Ill., finished third in 15:11.  DeHaven is a two-time FLCCC National Finalist.                 

Caroline Alcorta and Aaron Templeton Capture First Place Titles in 35th Annual Foot Locker Cross Country Championships South Regional

RACE HIGHLIGHTS:  Caroline Alcorta of Springfield, Va., and Aaron Templeton of Knoxville, Tenn., won the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships (FLCCC) South Regional today.  Alcorta, a senior at West Springfield High School, claimed the title in 16:55.  Amelia Paladino, a senior from Morgantown, W.Va., finished second in 17:04, with Natalie Rathjen of Dallas, Texas, placing third in 17:06.  Both Alcorta and Paladino are two-time FLCCC National Finalists.

Aaron Templeton, a senior at Hardin Valley Academy, won the Boys South Regional in 14:36. Benjamin Huffman of Waxhaw, N.C., placed second in 14:44, and Ian Milder of Winston Salem, N.C., finished third in 14:49.  Templeton is a two-time FLCCC National Finalist.

Barrett and Burke Capture First Place Titles in 35th Annual Foot Locker Cross Country Championships Northeast Regional

RACE HIGHLIGHTS:Tessa Barrett of Waverly, Pa., and Mickey Burke of Henrietta, N.Y., won the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships (FLCCC) Northeast Regional today.  Barrett, a senior atAbington Heights High School, claimed the title in 17:33.  Anoush Shehadeh, a junior at Phillips Academy Andover, placed second in 17:38, with Hannah DeBalsi of Westport Conn., finishing third in 17:40.  Anoush Shehadeh (Larchmont, N.Y.), Megan Reilly of Warwick, N.Y. (6th place), Regan Rome of Dallas, Pa. (8th place), and Katie Lembo of Penfield, N.Y. (9th place), are all two-time FLCCC national finalists.

Mickey Burke, a senior at Rush Henrietta Senior High School, finished in 15:19 and claimed the Northeast Regional title.  Christian Alvarado of Fairfield, Conn., placed second in 15:22, with Alex Ostberg of Darien, Conn., finishing in third in 15:23.

Held annually and organised by International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), it was inaugurated in 1973, when it replaced the International Cross Country Championships.
