Northwest Review - Week Ending 9/25

Written by Leo Collins - Youth Runner.

There were not as many meets in the northwest with the concentration being in a select few invitational meets but there was much worthy of note during the course of the past week. Danner – NTN Pre-National The defending Foot Locker West Regional champion, Molly Grabill showed why she is so respected by leaving her competition (“same competition in every meet”) in California & heading to Oregon.

She did not disappoint with a front-running performance of 17:42. In her wake was a field that consisted of Sarah Reiter of Lindbergh (18:00), Paige Rice of St. Mary‘s Academy(18:37), Priscilla Timmons of Skyview (18:42), Anastasia Koskykh of Eastlake (18:45), Daryl Phill of Bellarmine (18:53) plus Megan Fristoe of Summit (19:00), Kaitlyn Kaluzny of A C Davis (19:07), & Hayley Gregoire of Beaverton (19:15). Kayla Ferron (18:44) & Lyndsy Mull (18:45) from Redondo Union in California also made their presence felt in the race. Going into the guys’ race I felt the edge had to go to Californians Ryan Urie & Jantzen Oshier, who did not disappoint, as they ran 15:18 & 15:19 respectively but Matt Melancon of Sheldon was most impressive in adding suspense & energy to the race & then finishing 3rd in 15:26. Aaron Nelson of Walla Walla was up front for a good part of the race before placing 4th in 15:34. Other northwest runners of note were Angelo Comeaux of Everett (15:40), Korey Krotzer of Auburn Riverside (15:43) & Max Runia of Crater (15:57). Nathan Weintz of Shadle Park turned in the top time of the day with 15:17 but unfortunately was in another division. READ MORE>>>
