First-Time Marathon Runner Takes Women’s Title, Record-size field of 15,723 highlights 32nd running of event - Richmond, VA - Jynocel Basweti, 22, of Kenya took first place at the 2009 SunTrust Richmond Marathon for the second consecutive year with a time of 2:18:28, beating his 2008 finish time by four minutes. Also, twenty-nine year old Salome Kogsei surprised spectators with her first-place finish in the female division with a time of 2:40:51. The SunTrust Richmond Marathon was Kogsei’s first full marathon, which she decided to enter at the last minute.
Russia’s Tatiana Pushkareva Wins Second Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series Race in 2009 - Dan Cruz, Competitor, San Antonio, TX (November 15, 2009) — 29-year-old Gilbert Koech led a five-man Kenyan sweep of the second annual Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Marathon today, notching his first marathon victory since the 2005 Las Vegas Marathon. In testing, humid conditions, Koech broke from the five-man lead pack shortly after the 19-mile mark, and was headed on his way to victory in a time of 2 hours, 14 minutes and 39 seconds.

Colleen De Reuck Places Second, Wins USA Women’s Masters Championship; 29 Women Qualify for 2012 Women’s Marathon Olympic Trials - (St. Paul, Minn.) – A twenty-five year age difference separated the first and second place winners of the 2009 USA Women’s Marathon Championship today at the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon. Ilsa Paulson, 20, of New York City, won the title with a finishing time of 2:31:49. Colleen De Reuck, 45, of Boulder, Colo., placed second with a time of 2:32:37; De Reuck also won the USA Women’s Masters Championship. The championship events were part of the 28th Annual Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon, which started in downtown Minneapolis and finished at the state capitol in St. Paul, Minn.
