USA Men's 10 km champion to be crowned Sunday in Atlanta

INDIANAPOLIS - On the heels of strong performances at last week's USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Ed Moran (Williamsburg, Va.), Patrick Smyth (Minneapolis, Minn.), and Ryan Sheehan (Kalamazoo, Mich.) will lead the contenders for the USA Men's 10 km title Sunday at the 41st running of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta, Georgia.

 

Five Runners Vie for $10,000 PRRO Circuit Bonus at AJC Peachtree Road Race on July 4

Five runners head into this Sunday’s AJC Peachtree Road Race with a chance to add $10,000 in Professional Road Running Organization (PRRO) Circuit bonus money to the $15,000 awarded for race winners. Lineth Chepkurui, Alice Timbilili, Ridouane Harroufi, Peter Kirui and Stephen Tum all became eligible to compete for the bonus by winning one of the other four events on the 2009-2010 PRRO Circuit schedule. That’s the highest number of runners who have ever been eligible to compete for the PRRO Circuit bonus at Peachtree, which serves as the PRRO Circuit Championship each year.

Limited Entries Available through the American Cancer Society for Chicago’s Premier 13.1-Mile Race - Chicago, Ill. – July 1, 2010 – On Saturday, August 1, 2010, more than 25,000 runners, walkers and spectators will celebrate the second annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago Half Marathon benefiting the American Cancer Society, to the sounds of Five for Fighting. The post race concert will take place at the finish line festival at Grant Park, directly following the race.

Reigning Peachtree Champions Sammy Kitwara and Lineth Chepkurui Return to Defend Titles - Atlanta, June 30, 2010– Keeping with tradition, a world-class men’s and women’s field will toe the line at the start of the 41st running of the AJC Peachtree Road Race on Sunday, July 4.  For the third time in the past four years, the AJC Peachtree Road Race will host the USA Men’s 10 km Championship as well as serve as the 2010 Professional Road Running Organization’s (PRRO) Race of Champions.  Athletes in the 2010 AJC Peachtree Road Race will be competing for a share of the $111,300 overall prize purse, which includes $30,000 for the USA Men’s 10 km Championship.  In addition, three men and two women competing in the 2010 Peachtree are eligible to receive a $10,000 PRRO bonus*.  Eligible athletes must place first in the AJC Peachtree Road Race in order to take home the PRRO bonus.

Overseas AJC Peachtree Road Race Remote Starts - Hours before runners in Atlanta start heading to the start line at Lenox Square Mall to take part in the 41st running of the AJC Peachtree Road Race, US military personal in Afghanistan, Iraq and Kuwait will participate in the overseas editions of Peachtree.  Since 2004, the Atlanta Track Club has helped Coalition Forces stage their own version of the big event at different military bases throughout the Middle East.  Four of the overseas races will be started remotely from the Peachtree start line in Atlanta, GA on the evening of July 3.
