Robinson, Joynt Win XTERRA Redwood Peak

OAKLAND, Calif. – Northern California runners flocked to the Oakland Hills for the XTERRA Redwood Peak Trail Run on Sunday, April 18, 2010.

The field attracted some of the area’s best runners. Sam Robinson and Jennifer Joynt took home the top titles with their record breaking times.

Robinson, 25, blew away the men’s 17K race with his winning time of 1 hour, 7 minutes, 22 seconds. Following at 1:08:56 was Justin Thomas, 35, while XTERRA SoCal competitor Sean Kievning, 26, claimed third in 1:13:57.

In the women’s 17K Joynt, 39, finished in 1:29:30, 22 seconds ahead of Virginia Landin Nelson, 45. Sarah Beck, 34, rounded out the podium in 1:30:16.

The XTERRA Redwood Peak event also hosted a shorter 5K for those looking for a smaller off-road adventure. Wayne Cottrell, 48, and Lisa Penzel, 45, finished first with their times of 23:53 and 26:00.

Since this was the second of three races in the 2010 XTERRA NorCal Trail Run Series, just the XTERRA Marin Headlands Xduro stands between local runners and their Regional Champion titles.

Those ending the season with the highest totals will be given their crowns and free entry into the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship on Saturday, Sept 18, 2010 in Bend, Oregon.

Then on Sunday, December 5, 2010, runners are invited to be part of an international start list at the XTERRA Trail Running World Championship on th Hawaiian island of Oahu.
