As hurricane Irene pummeled the North Carolina coast on Saturday, runners at the third annual Continental Divide Trail race enjoyed sunny skies and comfortable mid 60’s temperatures. The race took place at Laurel Ridge Moravian Camp, located in Laurel Springs, NC, situated right on the Eastern Continental Divide. Racers plummeted off the top of the mountain four times, always returning to the top of the mountain. The race served as the USATF 10 Km Trail Championships for the third year in a row.

Continental Divide Trail Race again to host off-road national championship; up-and-down challenging course has 1,500 feet of climbing - LAUREL SPRINGS, N.C. - (August 24, 2011) - The Continental Divide Trail Race, on Saturday, August 27, will once again host the USA 10K Trail Championships. With 1,500 feet of climbing and some highly technical sections, some have described it as the hardest race they've ever run, with two big climbs, both ¼ mile with 18.5% and 22+% averages, plus no less than 9 difficult climbs.

Sally MeyerhoffDespite running with flu-like symptoms, King won the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship for the third consecutive year today at Kualoa Ranch. King, who is from Bend, Oregon, completed the 12.9 mile course in 1 hour, 16 minutes, 36 seconds.
