The North Face’s “Run for a Cause” supports Karno Kids Foundation - The inaugural Karno Kids Race was flat out a smashing success. Held on Saturday, May 8, 2010during The North Face Endurance Challenge in Bear Mountain, New York, the kids ran, the kids laughed and they even had their faces painted. Who knew that a foot race could be so much fun?
Bethesda, MD— “I ran faster than I thought I could”, exclaimed a young 8th grade girl at the Grove City Pennsylvania Middle School on the kickoff site for NATIONAL RUN A MILE DAYS. Grove City got a head start of other groups, PE classes and running clubs. The American Running Association (ARA) offered to be onsite and showcase Grove City since their PE Department had committed the entire 7th and 8th grade classes again this year after a successful debut in 2009. May 4th also was the best fit for the PE class schedules. May 6, 1954 was the date Sir Roger Bannister broke the once-feared SUB-4 minute barrier in the mile. These middle schoolers sought to measure their fitness while thinking just how fast four minutes for four laps is to run.
3rd Annual RUN A MILE DAYs seeking groups in all 50 states - Bethesda, MD— Running the mile proved to be quite an event for boys and girls at Flandreau Indian School in South Dakota. All 300 plus students ran an improvised mile course to test their fitness. Many of these students had not challenged themselves in a running event. For some, the mile was a start. “The reason why I walked/ran the mile is because I wanted to see if I could make it without stopping or giving up, said Sandra from Flandreau.
