London Salutes 100 Years of the Marathon Distance This Thursday
July 23, 2008 from press release (LONDON) Two runners, one dressed as Dorando Pietri, the other as Johnny Hayes, will set out from Windsor Castle on Thursday (July 24) to recreate the epic struggle that established the 'Marathon distance' of 26 miles 385 yards exactly 100 years ago.

As Cregg Weinmann, the RN footwear editor, sat behind me during the Trials each day, I asked him to keep track of the medals and places won by various footwear brands.

Running Journal Grand Prix XXX Champions
July 2008. The Running Journal Grand Prix ended its 10-race series with the running of the Cotton Row 10K in Huntsville, AL, on Memorial Day. The season started with a nighttime race at Maggie Valley, NC, in August where runners competed in the Maggie Valley 8K.
Four Earn Spots on Teva U.S. Mountain Running Team
The final selection race for the 2008 Teva U.S. Mountain Running Team was held at the LaSportiva Berry Picker Trail Race in Vail, CO. Four runners were named to the team including Simon Gutierrez, 42, Alamosa, who made his seventh straight team with his win today.

The Danskin Women's Triathlon Series, the largest and longest running women's multi-sport event in the world, continued the 2008 season with 3,875 women participating in the year's fifth race which was held in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.
Regional Race Report: Rotary Twilight 8K (MD)
A full moon on a warm summer's night, a band playing, beer taps flowing liberally and thousands of your oldest, newest and sweatiest best friends all suffused the Rockville city center in the aftermath of the 23rd Rotary Twilight Runfest. Top finishers were Mohamed Awol, 29, Bronx NY in 24:24 and Julie Culley, 26, Arlington VA who crossed the finish line in 26:58.
Regional Race Report: Barr Trail Mountain Race (CO)
July 21, 2008 Matt Carpenter of Manitou Springs won the 9th Annual Barr Trail Mountain Race in a time of 1 hour, 33 minutes, 27 seconds. Carpenter, 43, has now won five consecutive Barr Trail races and seven of the nine races since the event began in 2000. "From a running stand point it's always nice to win, but this race is about much more than that," Carpenter said.
Doug Logan Named USATF CEO
