The most decorated American women's middle-distance runner, Jenny Simpson, collapsed after pacing a 5:30 mile at a run group in Raleigh, North Carolina.
EMTs were quickly at the scene, and Jenny Simpson was revived, although reports are that she was without a pulse for several minutes (that can not be confirmed). Reports are that Jenny received nearly immediate assistance.
Jenny Simpson was a fine athlete at the University of Colorado. In the 2009 Berlin World Champs, Jenny Simpson set the American record for the steeplechase, placing fifth in Berlin, one of the finest steeplechases ever run by an American.
In 2011, Jenny surprised many and took gold in the 1,500 meters, followed by a silver in the 1,500 meters in Moscow 2013, and a silver medal in London 2017. Jenny Simpson took an Olympic bronze in the Rio 2016 Games. At the end of her career, she ventured on the roads, running marathons. After her elite retirement, she and her husband Jason, who qualified for the 2020 US Olympic Marathon Trials with a 2:18.44, toured 50 states in a Winnebago, with their dogs, called the RUN USA Tour, speaking with local running clubs and participating in local races.
Jenny Simpson, per the Sir Walter Mile social media, is recovering, under medical supervision. We wish her a speedy recovery!
