Race Organizers Determined to Deliver 44th Running of Bloomsday - Spokane, WA—Each May for the past 43 years, Spokane has welcomed the coming of spring and the sense of rebirth through the personal journeys of thousands of Bloomies through the streets of Spokane. This year, when COVID-19 began to make its way into our consciousness, we at Bloomsday worked with our local health officials, clinging to the hope that we could keep our first Sunday in May date alive. However, developments which have come at lightning speed over the past few days have made it crystal clear that it will be impossible to hold Bloomsday as planned.

Relays officials and Drake University plan to reschedule the 2020 event - Drake University has postponed the 2020 Drake Relays presented by Xtream powered by Mediacom along with related special events and programs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 111th edition of the event was scheduled for April 22–25 at Drake Stadium.

Toledo, Ohio -    January 17, 2020: The 44th Running of the Mercy Health Glass City Marathon has attracted the deepest women's field in the event's history, with each woman boasting a very impressive personal record. The race will take place on Sunday, April 26, 2020 at the University of Toledo, finishing inside the Glass Bowl Stadium.

New Balance delivers custom comfort 


Customers visiting select New Balance stores can experience the HP Fitstation + Volumental solution and purchase a pair of New Balance Stride 3D insoles, now available in Canada and the United States.  

Combining the power of 3D scanning and dynamic gait analysis technology, Stride 3D insoles reflect each person’s unique biometrics. The insoles will be printed in the US on HP’s industry-leading Multi Jet Fusion printers and assembled with additional materials. 


HP to showcase disruptive footwear solutions at ISPO Munich 


Next week (January 26-29, 2020), HP is showcasing a wide range of footwear innovation in Booth 205 Hall A5 at ISPO Munich, one of the largest sports business tradeshows in the world. IPSO attendees will have the opportunity to see a variety of breakthrough production parts manufactured using HP Multi Jet Fusion as well as new footwear applications printed with HP’s new certified thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), ULTRASINT™ developed by BASF. The new TPU is expanding the breadth of final-parts applications for customers on the HP Jet Fusion 5200 Series systems and is ideal for flexible and elastic footwear applications. 


Visitors will also have the opportunity to demo Fitstation on the booth, and see multiple custom products including the Superfeet ME3D insole and ME3D Aftersport Custom Recovery Slides.

During the visit, delegates toured the under-construction Hayward Field at the University of Oregon, visited local Eugene hotels, and attended numerous working meetings covering accommodation, broadcast requirements, press operations, event presentation and operations, security and ticketing.

The visiting delegation, comprised of both technical and broadcast experts, had a full agenda, beginning with two days in Portland as they considered course options for the championship marathons and race walks that they will now take to the next World Athletics Council meeting in Nanjing, China, for approval in March. They also met with Travel Oregon, a key stakeholder and driving force behind state-wide involvement in the event, and its wider promotion.

The World Athletics Championships Oregon21 will take place in both Eugene and Portland from 6-15 August 2021, with specific dates for the Portland events still to be determined. It is the first time the outdoor World Championships will be held on USA soil. The World Athletics Indoor Championships took place in Portland in 2016.

“This is the first time ever that our world championships will be held in a stadium purpose-built specifically for athletics, rather than a multi-purpose sports stadium, which has its own challenges in terms of space but will provide a strong legacy for the sport here in the USA. Our tour of the Hayward Field stadium this week was exciting and although still under construction we can all imagine a world class event in 2021. Athletics fans the world over really have something to look forward to.”

Oregon21 CEO Niels de Vos added: “This has been an excellent visit in which we were able to share detailed plans with our counterparts from World Athletics. We are delighted to have secured World Athletics’ endorsement for those plans and will now double down on ensuring that we deliver against them.”

In addition to all the meetings, one presentation that met with great interest was the unveiling of the logo for the World Athletics Championships Oregon21, which takes great advantage of the in-fill opportunity offered by the new World Athletics branding scheme. The Oregon21 logo features artwork from Portland-based artist Blaine Fontana, and depicts a wide range of Oregon iconography. Fontana’s original artwork will become a mural on the side of a building at a location still to be determined in Eugene.

All in all, the week was deemed a great success, with everyone now looking forward to the next site visit, scheduled for June to coincide with the USA Olympic Trials.
