Angelina Perez of Ringwood, N.J. and Gavin Sherry of West Hartford, Conn. won the Eastbay Cross Country (formerly Foot Locker CC) Championships (ECCC) Northeast Regional today.
Perez, a senior at Lakeland Regional High School, claimed the title in the girls’ championship race in 17:21.5. Zariel Macchia, a freshman from Shirley, N.Y., finished second in 17:42.7, and Juliette Whittaker, a senior from Laurel, Md., placed third in 17:44.7. Whittaker along with Karrie Baloga (New Windsor, N.Y.), who finished fifth in today’s race, and Mia Cochran (Coraopolis, Pa.) who finished ninth are also two-time girls’
ECCC National Finalists from the Northeast Regional.
Sherry, a senior at Conard High School, took the title in the boys’ championship race in 15:05.8 shattering the course record and breaking two-time Olympian Donn Cabral’s 2007 standard of 15:09. Sherry, in 2019, was a runner-up in the Northeast Regional race making him a two-time ECCC National Finalist. Marco Langon, a senior from Raritan, N.J., finished second in today’s race tying the course record in 15:09.6 and Gitch Hayes, a senior from Albany, N.Y., finished third in 15:18.6. Senior Aiden Puffer (Manchester, Conn.), who finished sixth in today’s race, is also a two-time ECCC National Finalist.
