Austin, TX – (Mar. 14, 2020) The City of Austin has cancelled the 43rd Statesman Capitol 10,000 on April 5.   It has banned public or private gatherings of 250 people or more.  The ban will take effect at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 15 and will continue until at least May 1, 2020.  The City of Austin will not permit the race to be rescheduled in 2020.

“While we know that the cancellation of the 2020 Cap10K is disappointing to the more than 26,000 registered runners, we accept the City’s decision. We place the safety of our participants, sponsors, volunteers and staff first,” said Jeff Simecek, Statesman Cap10K race director. “We’re working diligently on a series of solutions. At this point, in either May or June after the critical coronavirus period has passed, we’ll invite participants to pick up their 2020 race shirt, bib and finisher’s medal. We’re also inviting runners to complete a Cap10K 6.2 mile virtual race when it’s convenient for them and to share and tag their photos and videos with the hashtag #Cap10Kvirtualrace. All registered participants will receive email communication with more detailed information.  Our title sponsor, Baylor Scott & White Health has posted information on COVID-19 and how to keep your loved ones safe at BSWHealth.com.  We really appreciate the continued support of our Cap10K community and sponsors during this challenging and unprecedented time.”

The Cap10K, presented by Baylor Scott & White Health, is the largest 10K race in Texas, a BibRave Top Race in America and Austin Fit Magazine’s “Best Race/Run” for 2019. The 2021 Cap10K is scheduled for Sunday, April 11.  Additional race information is available at cap10K.com.
