Portland, OR (May 1, 2020) — Registration for the HOKA ONE ONE Summer Mile Club, presented by AthleticNET, is now open. The program is opening one month ahead of the originally planned launch with the aim of providing motivation for and uniting high school athletes across the nation in their efforts to train and stay fit amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As Track & Field competitions across the nation are on hold or canceled, runners of all levels are setting their sights ahead to the summer and fall.
The HOKA Summer Mile Club, which debuted in 2019, returns with more access, incentives and opportunities for aspiring high school athletes from May 1 through August 31, 2020. Last year, over 1,200 athletes logged their miles to unlock rewards including unique training tips from HOKA athletes, early access to the newest training and competition footwear from HOKA, commemorative pins, digital badges, and unique t-shirts. In its first year, the program saw incredible engagement, and looks to continue growing in future years with all new prizes, challenges, and ways to interact with their training, coaches, and teammates. Plus, all athletes that log at least 100 miles will receive a HOKA ONE ONE Summer Miles Club performance hat.
New in 2020 is the integration of AthleticNET’s new AthleticAPP, which allows an easier opportunity for athletes to log and upload their training runs, participate in virtual track and field meets, and interact socially with their teammates and competition alike. This amplification aims to spur athletes to further their own initiative in staying motivated in a world where communication and virtual solidarity are critical for goal-oriented youth.
“At HOKA, we know that community and connection is an integral part of why we love running and getting outside, and we recognize that the toll of social distancing on high school athletes extends beyond losing their spring seasons: they’re missing out on irreplaceable time with their teammates and friends,” said Wendy Yang, President of HOKA ONE ONE. “The Summer Mile Club can provide a way for them to stay motivated and stay connected to each other, even if it’s virtually.”
"Racking up mileage is a highlight of many athletes’ summers and a key motivating factor for coaches to prepare athletes for the upcoming Cross Country season," said Ross Krempley, founder and CEO of RunnerSpace. "We're excited to start year two of the HOKA ONE ONE Summer Mile Club one month earlier than originally planned to give athletes more time to hit the coveted 100, 250 and 400 summer mileage barriers, while earning prizes along the way."
